Quick Tip- Best Spots for a Break

Its mid day, you hit the ground running before rope drop at the park, your tired, its hot (or rainy or cold take your pick), the crankies have set in for the group and you just want some peace for a moment. While sharing the park with upwards of 50K of your newest friends seems like fun sometimes you just need a break from it all. So where do you go in Walt Disney World to take a break? The important factors for me are: out of the elements, seating, and low crowds. Here are some of my favorite spots.

Magic Kingdom– waiting room for Hall of Presidents and for some the attraction itself offers a nice dark napping spot for about half an hour.  Head upstairs at Columbia Harbor House and get a table near the back, these spots are often overlooked because climbing stairs on tired legs isn’t something most will pick. Riding along the Rivers of America on the Liberty Belle is a great option, there are not a lot of seats so grab one early. Or if you like some adventure before your rest raft over to Tom Saywer Island and find a spot to relax.

Epcot- quiet spots abound here. With such a large park and lots of nooks and crannies  there is usually a spot nearby. In Future World, under the awning at the top of the Imagination Pavillion is one of my favorite spots and this spot gets extra points for relaxation as the jumping fountains can be hypnotic. The Oddysey building, between Test Track and Mexico, this pathway has some great restroom stops and a few seats out of the elements available in the lobby.  In World Showcase grab a drink or snack in the UK and head toward the lagoon from Yorkshire Chips, keep going and there are a few tables under cover with a peaceful view of the lagoon. Many think these are part of Rose and Crown but a few are outside the R&C fenced in patio and are up for grabs.  In France head into Impressions de France for a 15 minute rest while watching the movie. In the American Adventure the lobby offers some cushy seating and if you time your stop right you may be serenade by the wonderful Voices of Liberty.

Hollywood Studios– although a lot of quiet spots got shuttered recently to make way for the upcoming additions of Toy Story and Star Wars lands there are still a few spots you can find to take a break. The Writers Stop shop, be sure to grab a snack for your break, there are just a handful of seats here so you may have to take that snack to go. While it is still available One Man’s Dream is a great attraction to see and a wonderful place for a pit stop. While I don’t recommend the food at either both Backlot Express and ABC Commissary have plenty of seating and are indoors. You don’t need to order anything to get a seat but the drinks aren’t bad, its hard to mess up a coke (although if given the chance Commissary could!). There is a  so called “lounge” available in the defunct Jack Sparrow attraction area but its not somewhere I’d consider a nice place for a break, its bleak and boring and a little creepy.

Animal Kingdom – this huge park offers lots of winding paths that many visitors never take a peak at. There is definitely room to spread out and find some peace and quiet. With seating available Flame Tree BBQ dining area down by the water is one of my favorite spots in the park. Plus your steps away from some great quick service food to enjoy during your break. Rafiki’s Wildlife Express and Conservation Station also provide a relaxing option for a break.

A notable option at all 4 parks are Baby Care centers. They are a great place to get a seat and soak up some cool air plus other than the occasional baby cry nice and quiet. Having a baby is not a pre requisite for entry. You often see families with younger kids that are past baby age catching a few moments of peace.

These are a few of my favorite spots to grab some peace and quiet, what quiet spot is your favorite?
