Quick Tip- Staying Cool in the Summer

We all know Walt Disney World is in Florida so we should expect summers to be hot. But most are not prepared for the high temps and humidity that summer season brings. There are many things you can do to stay cool but here are some of my favorite tips.

Stay Hydrated- drink lots of water. get free ice water from any counter service place in the parks. Bring a bottle and fill it up and carry it with you.  We like to freeze a few water bottles overnight and put them in  our park bags they melt by  mid  morning so we have a nice cool drink when we need it.

Frogg Toggs or cooling towels- Look for these at sporting goods stores or even your local Wal-mart before leaving home. The chilly pads stay cool and keep you refreshed throughout the day. They roll up/fold nicely and you should take a gallon ziplock bag to store them in when not using in the park. In your room lay them out to dry a bet in the morning re-wet and your ready to go. NEW! Disney recently released a set of thier own branded cooling towels sold in the parks.

Clothing choices matter- Wear light colored clothing. Skip anything made out of heavy materials.  Breathable fabrics are best and moisture wicking clothes can be great to keep you cooler.

Sunscreen- Always important in the summer but remember a sunburn will feel even worse the next day when you are back out in the blazing hot sun. While not many lines are in the direct sunlight, walking between rides and around the parks there may not be a lot of relief for toasty skin.

Breaks- When the afternoon temperatures peak head out of the park for a break. Enjoy a nice swim. a nap or just hang out in the ice cold  A/C of your hotel room. If you jus can’t manage a break look for long attractions indoors  in A/C and try to hit a few of them in a row. Some good options are Hall of Presidents & Philharmagic in Magic Kingdom,  American Adventure and Ellen’s Universe of Energy in Epcot, American Idol in Hollywood Studios, Festival of the Lion King and Finding Nemo-the Musical in Animal Kingdom.

When the temperatures soar its easy to get hot, tired, and cranky quickly. You know your limits best and when to stop but hopefully these tips will help keep you a little cooler during your trip and let you maximize your park time.
